Shane Jolley launched his "Taking Responsibility" campaign Saturday with two announcements. Speaking to supporters at his 2nd Avenue office in Owen Sound, Jolley said that after the election October 6 he wants to look back and say "we started off right".
"I will take responsibility for public tax dollars, and will not accept the 15% government subsidy. Our campaign will be funded completely by individual donations from supporters."
"I will not participate in the "sign contest" that is disrespectful of the voters' intelligence and litters the countryside." Jolley said his campaign will put up a limited number of selectively placed signs which will be removed and recycled after the election. Supporters who request signs will be invited to engage more directly in the campaign - hosting coffee parties to meet the candidate and passing on the "taking responsibility" message.
Jolley took questions after his brief speech. "We need local control and local benefits", he said to questions about wind power and agricluture "We need to address the challenges before us by finding the local opportunities that lie behind them" .
